Art Portfolio Submission Requirements
Guidelines
-
5-8 samples of your artwork. Please do not submit more or less.
Focus on quality first. We would rather see a portfolio with 5 high-quality finished pieces that are thoughtful and expressive than one with 8 where the quality of work was uneven.
Try to include work that shows a variety of styles and subjects, such as: a self portrait, a landscape, a comic strip, a still life, a character design. Variety is recommended. We want to be able to see your technical and conceptual skills as an artist. Previous experience in digital art is not required.
You may submit artwork in any media, including animation. If you submit an animation, please make sure your video is not longer than 2 minutes.
Portfolio Rubric
Each art submission is measured using four separate components: composition, skill/technique, originality and craftsmanship.
-
-
Composition: The plan, placement and arrangement of the elements of art, and the application of the design principles in a piece; measures student’s ability to effectively design the picture plane.
-
Skill and Technique: Rendering and use of materials, tools and mediums; measures student’s knowledge, aptitude and ability to render with authenticity.
-
Originality: The act of conveying mood, sentiment, feeling, spirit and character in artistic execution; measures student’s ability to create expressive powerful works that clearly reflect the student’s original point of view.
-
Craftsmanship: Level of attention to the finished product and presentation of the artwork; measures the student’s effort and ability to create works that demonstrate pride of workmanship.
